Hello pilots, welcome to the all new HOWTO series in the Aviation Guides of MAV. This time, we will be discussing...
Reading METAR of an Airport.
______________________________________________
BLUE : Airport Identifier, (KJFK).
RED : The first Two numbers are the date (16th) of the month. Consequent Four numbers are time in Zulu (2251Z). Zulu is the Universal Time. The combined reading of these tells the Date & Time of the issued METAR.
GREEN : The first Three numbers will indicated the direction that the wind is blowing from; in this case, from 160°. Next Two numbers are indicated in Knots (07KT) as the speed of the wind.
PURPLE : Indicated in unit, Statue Mile (or typically just miles) of the Visibility of the Airport.
ORANGE : These are clouds at certain altitudes. (Check out SKY COVERAGE thread for Cloud Interpretation)
YELLOW : Temperature and Dewpoint, always stated in Degree Celsius (°C). Dewpoint is where the Air will be Fully Saturated. The closer the number, the more likely there will be a Fog or Lower Clouds.
PINK : Altimeter Setting. Shows the pressure in the current Field Elevation. E.g. (A2982) 29.82 is the current Altimeter Setting.
